Africa in Motion is proud to announce that its Academic Consultancy Training (ACT) project has won the ACT Award 2025, awarded by Wageningen University & Research (WUR).This recognition confirms the growing academic recognition of the Equal Trade Model developed by Africa in Motion.

The award‑winning research was conducted by a multidisciplinary team of eight MSc students, in collaboration with Afropulse, and focused on how Equal Trade Certification (ETC) can be implemented in an existing SME. The study explored the integration of ETC within a cowpea value chain between Ghana and Europe, with particular attention to ensuring fair and equitable compensation for Ghanaian female smallholder farmers. Using tools such as a PESTEL framework, stakeholder interviews, and financial analysis, the students translated equal trade principles into practical, transparent, and economically viable recommendations for more inclusive agricultural value chains.

The jury unanimously selected the project, highlighting its strong societal impact, academic quality, and direct applicability. For Africa in Motion, the research has provided valuable insights that support ongoing implementation of the Equal Trade Model.

As part of the award, Wageningen University & Research will produce a short video showcasing the project and its impact, which will be published on WUR’s website and social media channels.

This recognition marks an important step toward more equitable, transparent, and sustainable trade systems between Africa and Europe.
