From June 22 to July 7, Africa in Motion (AIM) conducted a strategic mission to Ethiopia to present the Blue Sustainable Energy Project, powered by iron powder technology – a clean, circular, and decentralized energy innovation developed by Metalot | Metal Power Community in collaboration with the Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e) in the Netherlands.

The mission aimed to explore the application of this breakthrough technology in Ethiopia’s energy transition and to establish strong national and international partnerships for project implementation.

The visit successfully laid the groundwork for a national feasibility study and opened key pathways for multi-stakeholder collaboration:

  • Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE): Expressed strong interest and committed to issuing a Letter of Support
  • Ministry of Agriculture: Facilitated high-level connections and endorsed the project
  • Addis Ababa University (AAU): Confirmed as lead academic partner with 13 departments involved
  • UNDP Ethiopia: Identified the project as a priority for 2026 and committed to co-developing a funding proposal
  • Donor Engagement: New opportunities created through NEFCO, AECF, and the EU Delegation

Next Steps:

  • Finalize the Letter of Support with MoWE
  • Launch the feasibility study with AAU and Metalot | Metal Power Community
  • Expand donor outreach and prepare for pilot implementation

With strong Ethiopian ownership and growing international support, the Blue Sustainable Energy Project represents a bold step toward advancing Africa’s clean and sustainable energy future.
